Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral therapy is a hands-on therapy which assists the body’s natural capacity for self repair. You will usually lie fully clothed on a treatment table while the therapist’s hands make a light contact. This gentle approach does not use manipulation, the therapist is listening, on a deep level, to your body. People usually feel very relaxed and may become aware of tingling, heat or pulsation. Craniosacral therapy is client led, your body (not your mind) will set the pace and priorities for work.
Sessions last one hour. The initial consultation and treatment are for 1½ hours.
How does it work?
Craniosacral therapy has developed from discoveries made by osteopaths over a hundred years ago that all cells in the body express a rhythmic tidal movement. When this inherent movement is free, balanced and has vitality, an individual is healthy, physically and emotionally. This rhythmic motion contracts and congests as we ‘hold on’ to the impact of physical and emotional stresses. Knock-on effects can be physical (migraines, back pain, digestive disorders) or emotional (depression and anxiety).
Craniosacral Therapy is safe and effective. A gentle contact allows a deep release of the underlying forces holding contraction, over a number of sessions. Carefully paced and spacious, clients are able to integrate the changes that occur. A felt sense of health and wellbeing emerges, with renewed vitality, clarity and purpose.
Can I benefit?
By helping to raise vitality and supporting the body’s own self-healing, almost anyone can benefit from craniosacral therapy. It is safe and effective for both long-term chronic conditions and recent injury or illness.
Whether you are looking for relief from pain or illness, embarking on a journey of self discovery, or simply wanting some space to relax, my approach to craniosacral therapy is gentle, accepting and respectful.
Our bodies hold the history of our experiences. Coming into relationship with the body and its patterns of holding can bring new insight and freedom of expression. Health is more than the absence of pain. Health is expressed as vitality, balance and acceptance in life. It is palpable as motion and can be directly supported.
