Food Intolerance Testing

Are you experiencing a lack of vitality, do you have chronic health problems, or just generally not feeling on top form?  It could be that the food you are eating is not right for your body type.

Over two thousand years ago the Chinese observed that some people responded badly to certain foods causing deterioration in physical and mental health.

As he quality of the food we eat has deteriorated and the influence of “Convenience” processed Foods and Fast Foods, on-the-run, the strain on our bodies’ digestive system has increased dramatically.

The effects of making poor chooses in our nutrition is demonstrated almost every night on popular television through programmes such as “You Are What You Eat” and “The Diet Doctors”.

While less than 2% of the population suffer from classical food allergies, some researchers estimated that up to 80% of the population can suffer from food intolerances. It can affect anyone at any age, but since symptoms often occur some time after the food has been eaten it can be difficult to find the problem food without being tested for intolerances. For example, the milk or bread eaten on one day could be the cause of joint pain three days later.

Some food intolerances are caused by an enzyme deficiency or chemical sensitivity, while others are an immune response caused by food specific IgG antibodies.

What is the Difference Between a Food Allergy and a Food Intolerance?

Food Intolerances are reactions to food that may cause unpleasant symptoms and is associated with a host of chronic conditions. They are usually caused by your body being unable to digest certain types of foods, or some ingredient in the food.

Food intolerance is unlikely to be life threatening unlike allergies, which in some individuals can cause anaphylaxis. Typical allergy symptoms tend to be immediate and can take the form of swelling of lips or throat, skin rash or hives, vomiting or breathing problems.

If you have a food intolerance, you usually can eat small amounts of problem foods without a reaction. By contrast, if you have a true food allergy, even a tiny amount of the food may trigger a serious allergic reaction.

Frequent early symptoms of food intolerances:

*       Tiredness and Fatigue
*       Headaches
*       Weight Problems
*       IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)
*       Depression
*       Skin Problems
*       Bloating
*       Sinus Problems
*       Insomnia

Food Intolerance Testing
We can offer you two types of Food Intolerance Testing:

Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) (Blood Test)

All that is needed is a small pinprick of blood and using a test developed by Cambridge Nutritional Sciences (CNS) we can let you know what foods you are reacting to, and just as importantly, which foods you should be free to eat.

Cambridge Nutritional Sciences (CNS) developed the UK’s first the Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) method for food IgG antibody detection in 1994.
The test works by measuring food specific IgG and if there is an increase in IgG against specific foods.

Until very recently the only way that you could be tested for food IgG reactions was by sending a sample of blood to a laboratory to have the test done. CNS have now developed a ELISA blood test for use in clinics. This gives you the advantage of receiving the results within 45 minutes of taking the test, rather than waiting, in some cases, for weeks to receive the results.

Electro-Dermal Testing using the BioMeridian MSAS System

Using the BioMeridian MSAS System, foods and substances that may be making you feel unwell can quickly and accurately identified.

The benefit of the MSAS screening is that the results of the screening are immediate, and you will be tested for 98 of the most common foods that lead to an intollerance. At the end of the test you will receive a computer generated colour printout of the results of your test.

The testing process is painless and non invasive. A stylus is applied to an acupressure point on the hand, a signal from the MSAS System stimulates the body’s energy system for each of the items to be tested, and records the feedback from the body. The testing process normally takes between 20 and 30 minutes and numerous research programmes have shown the system to be up to 95% accurate.
