Sugar is an ancient ingredient, one of the oldest and most travelled in existence. Now, however, it is suddenly being attacked as an unnatural substance that can only cause the worst things to your body. Is sugar truly so horrible? Has it caused us to turn into sugar addicts?

Bear in mind these sugar facts. The human body uses sugars to get saccharides, which are actually the elementary unit that makes up sugar. Saccharides are also unit structures for starch and cellulose. Disaccharides, to be exact, are the kind found in white sugar from sugarcane. When ingested, these disaccharides go through hydrolization into monosaccharides, which is what the body uses.

Like any other food, the hazards of sugar intake come about in excess consumption. Pay attention to some more sugar facts. Sugar is associated with some serious medical problems. Examples of these are tooth decay, glycemic index, diabetes, gout, and obesity. Some believe it might cause cancer, but this remains to be proven.

Too many commerical products are made with noxious amounts of sugar. Recently, however, the appearance of high fructose corn syrup or HFCS in many of these products have made them even more dangerous. In almost all cases, sugar is preferable as a food sweetener to HFCS.

Sugar has also been found to be conspicuously tastier. This does not mean to say any risks from using white sugar gets cancelled. Both sugar and HFCS go through a highly synthesized degree of production.

The best way to refrain from consuming extremely high amounts of sugar is to lookup the nutritional information on the package before trying. Get a sugar list to have convenient, accurate information on sugar levels.

You can get saccharides from foods other than sugarcane. They're also available in fruits, milk, honey, and grain products. Before you lower sugar or try other changes to your daily diet, seek proper medical advice from a professional.
